WPS to DOCX
Convert online and free WPS to DOCX
Converting in only three steps
The WPS format originates from Microsoft Works, a stripped-down version of Office that Microsoft finally discontinued in 2009. Modern word processors such as LibreOffice, Google Docs or Apple PAGES can no longer open WPS files. Even newer versions of Word, starting with Office 2016, have gradually phased out support for them.
The solution is to convert the document once into a modern format. DOCX has established itself as the de facto standard. Since its introduction with Office 2007, it has been read and written by virtually every relevant word processor, regardless of manufacturer and across all platforms. Unlike the binary WPS format, DOCX is based on open XML, meaning it remains readable in the long term and is significantly better suited for archiving purposes.
During conversion, the essential content is preserved: body text, paragraph formatting, headings, simple tables and embedded images. In the case of very complex layouts with columns, WordArt or special Works styles, minor visual discrepancies may occur in isolated cases – this is inevitable, as some Works features simply have no direct equivalent in the DOCX standard. As far as the content itself is concerned, this is generally irrelevant.
After conversion using File-Converter-Online.com, the DOCX file can be opened, edited and shared as usual in Word, LibreOffice Writer or Google Docs, without the recipient having to wonder how on earth to open that mysterious WPS file extension.
